i am so happy to have hosted the "UNPUGGED" Yoga Retreat at the Haramara Retreat in Sayulita Mexico! Our trip down there went off without a hitch, the location was stunning, and the weather was warm and balmy.
Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly shuttle drivers at the airport and it was a quick 45 minute cruise to the retreat. The staff at Haramara were exceptionally attentive to our needs and super friendly. On the evening of our arrival the founder of Haramara, Sujila, told us the incredible story of how she came to open this peaceful sanctuary.
The sounds of the ocean could be heard from every corner of the retreat. Most of the casitas had views of the ocean and others had beautiful views of the jungle. All of the casitas had handwoven linens, beautiful mosquito netting over the beds, and open air bathrooms. Each day they were impeccably cleaned by the staff.
The most special part of this place is that there is no electricity in the rooms, only candlelight and hurricane lamps. Being disconnected from social media, email, and phone for the majority of 8 days made it easy for us to connect to our inner peace and solitude.
The food was absolutely delicious and it was quite evident that it was delicately prepared with loving care. All of the ingredients were local and mainly organic. All of the meals were 3 courses of nourishing and creative dishes that were pleasing to all of the senses. In the evenings we would enjoy margaritas, beer, and wine at the pool bar while sharing life stories and having a healthy dose of laughter before heading to our casitas to be lulled to sleep by the sounds of nature.
Each morning we started with a sunrise Yoga practice. Our days were spent receiving healing treatments such as massage and acupuncture. There were several wonderful healers on site. We also had free time for walking in to Sayulita for shopping and swimming in the ocean, or hanging out by the pool or beach at Haramara and reading. We had a second practice in the evening which included chanting and focusing on goal poses with the students. i believe everyone got into their goal pose at least once!
All of these elements were so important in creating a successful retreat, but the most important of all were the people who attended. i want to thank you all so much for your presence, your ability to be in conscious company with others, and for your unique and radiant personalities! i love you ALL!!
